description

In the West Flemish district of De Moeren (Veurne), the historic Sint-Gustaaf Mill, a round stone grondzeiler that formerly functioned as a polder mill, is undergoing careful restoration. The mill, which has been owned by Willem Vermandere since 1985, was then restored and used as a sculpture studio. Thanks to the specialized craftsmanship of Geert Viaene, the masonry joints are being restored and the façade finishing is professionally executed.

For the restoration, sustainable lime products from Saint-Astier were chosen. The joints were restored with NHL 3.5, a natural hydraulic lime perfectly suited for historic construction techniques. The mill is then finished with RC Kalei, a breathable lime coating that gives the monument an authentic appearance. Finally, RC Siloxcoat, a high-quality breathable façade coating, provides long-lasting protection against rain, moisture, and pollution. This combination of traditional techniques and modern lime products ensures a durable and aesthetic restoration of this valuable heritage site in Veurne.
