Carriage houses Wondelgem

description

In Wondelgem, on the outskirts of Ghent, the former carriage houses of “De Stoeterij” are part of an ambitious heritage redevelopment project. The estate, dating back to the 1920s, includes a manor house and several outbuildings that are being carefully restored with respect for their original character. The restoration work was carried out by Istoir, a Drongen-based company specializing in the renovation and finishing of historic masonry.

For the rehabilitation of the masonry, the craftsmen used RC Sanisel, a lightweight, salt-resistant renovation render based on lime. This specialized mortar resists salts (sulfates, chlorides, nitrates) and facilitates rapid evaporation of moisture, while remaining fully breathable. In this project, RC Sanisel was mainly applied on the plinth, providing a durable and breathable protection to the old masonry while preserving the historic character of the site.
